Cedar Rapids Celebrates the Tenth Anniversary of McGrath Amphitheatre


The City of Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department and VenuWorks are proud to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the McGrath Amphitheatre in Cedar Rapids! This milestone marks a decade of top-tier live entertainment, community festivals, cultural experiences, and much more.

The McGrath Amphitheatre, a city-owned outdoor venue situated on the picturesque west bank of the Cedar River, has been a beacon of cultural vibrancy since its inception in 2013. The Amphitheatre not only serves as a naturalized park, but also plays an important role in flood protection for westside businesses and residents.

The inaugural event was hosted on May 20th, 2014, and since has been the hub for a diverse range of 300 plus artistic performances and community gatherings. The first national artist to perform on the stage was Jamie Lynn Spears in 2014. Since then, key artists who have performed at the McGrath Amphitheatre include Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Diana Ross, Goo Goo Dolls, Boyz II Men and man y more. Tenacious D had the highest attended event with over 3500 tickets sold. Last December, the inaugural Five Seasons Lights, a month-long, walk-through lights display brought holiday joy to thousands of people.

The City of Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Park & Recreation Department, and McGrath Automotive Group have partnered to make McGrath Amphitheatre a crown jewel for summer activities in Cedar Rapids. The McGrath Amphitheatre has also served as a catalyst for economic development and tourism in the region. Its strategic location by the Cedar River and scenic views, has attracted over 450,000 visitors from near and far, boosting the city's visibility and supporting local businesses.

McGrath Amphitheatre is operated by VenuWorks, a national venue management company, provides services and solutions for management, programming, marketing, ticketing, and operations to over 50 venues nationwide. Looking ahead, VenuWorks remains committed to promoting
the arts and entertainment industry, supporting local talent, and creating memorable experiences for all who walk through the gates of the Amphitheatre.

The 2024 McGrath Amphitheatre season kicks off on May 9th with Dustin Lynch and includes over 10 additional touring acts like An Evening with
CAKE, The Beach Boys, and 90’s rock band, Bush.

New Naming Rights Partner Announced for Downtown Hotel, Convention Center and Arena Complex

Alliant Energy and the City of Cedar Rapids announced a naming rights agreement for the city-owned downtown hotel, convention center and arena complex formerly known as the U.S. Cellular Center. It will now be named the Alliant Energy PowerHouse. The new 12-year agreement between the City and Alliant Energy was effective July 1, 2020.

Cedar Rapids Named Host City for 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern Adult Sectional Championships

U.S. Figure Skating has selected Cedar Rapids as the host of the Midwestern Adult Sectional Championship. It is the first time this event will be held in Iowa. ImOn Ice is hosting the competition March 4-6, 2022, in partnership with the Eastern Iowa Figure Skating Club.

ImOn Communications and City of Cedar Rapids Announce Naming Rights for the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena

ImOn Ice Unveiled at Press Conference


ImOn Communications and the City of Cedar Rapids announced a naming rights agreement for the city-owned Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, now named ImOn Ice. The agreement between the City and ImOn Communications is effective January 1, 2020 through 2024. VenuWorks Cedar Rapids will continue management of the venue, under leadership of new general manager, Erik Hudson.
